Those who possess magical abilities do so because of a blue pigment in their skin and hair called the m-pigment. Much like chlorophyll in plants converts light energy to chemical energy, the m-pigment converts light to energy used for magic. The m-pigment (m stands for mavi) absorbs the higher wavelength light, like reds and yellows, so it looks blue. Everybody has different concentrations and types of m-pigments, so they are of different colors.
Not all energy used for spells comes from m-pigments, of course. Energy obtained from eating food also helps; however, it does not provide enough energy for casting most spells. The country, called Çizgilya, is pronounced as Chiz-gheel-ia. It comes from the word çizgi, which means 'line' in Turkish.
Çizgilya is home to a population of cats and dogs. These two species used to be at war with each other for centuries, but then they came to an agreement to live in peace and harmony. There is little to no segregation between species within Çizgilya.
No dogs in Çizgilya have magical abilities. Only some cats do. Actually, blue cats are a minority.Sometimes. Nowadays, blue cats usually don't use their magic unless it is necessary. It has recently become fashionable for ordinary cats and dogs to dye their hair in hues of blue, but you can tell they're not magical because they have pink skin.
Bianca's been around much longer before the cats and dogs found their way onto her land. She waited a few centuries for them to get settled, and then unleashed her dictatorship on them.
Sidenote: Actually, I'd originally meant for Midnight to be the heroine, but I think now Bianca and Midnight are going to both be the two protagonists. Whatever, anyway..!
I'm a lot like Bianca, but I'm also a lot like all the other characters. Sometimes I say something during the day, and think, "Hmm, Bianca should say that in a panel." For example, in bottom of page 10, Bianca sounds exactly like me when she's complaining about some stupid girl's bangs.Bianca likes to do a variety of things, and cooking is one of them. Once you realize that you're immortal, it doesn't seem that hard to make time for stuff you like to do.
None that I know of at the moment, but she might be having a secret fling with a co-immortal, or *gasp* a human! You never know! And why outrule beastiality? Anything goes. Not to say that Bianca's a ho. But yeah, as far as I know, she's single right now.
There is a separate world where other immortals live, and Bianca's also part of that community, so technically, it should all work out. I was actually planning on bringing this topic up later in the comic. Anyway, I think just the concept of infinite time is mind-boggling. Right now, all Bianca cares about is to live her life to the fullest. In the time period in which this comic is set, Bianca's going through a fun time so she's more concerned about that.
Nope, sorry! They just like to flirt a lot.
It's been tried many times in the past, but so far, nobody's succeeded.
I believe it means 'white' in Italian. I named her when I was about 12, so I didn't care about deeper meanings behind names, but it might very well be because her skin is so pale.
I was heavily influenced by cartoons like Looney Tunes when I was in elementary school. I created a bunch of dog characters when I was 9, and wrote funny comics about them. Somewhere in middle school, cats started popping up, too, especially magical ones. From lack of further originality, I still draw the characters I created in middle school!
No, Matt's the only weirdo who talks like that.
Of course. I just don't update so frequently. Sign up for the mailing list to get notified of the updates.
Bianca means "white" in Italian, but I didn't intend for the name to symbolize anything. It was just a random girl's name that sounded right. It kind of works out, because Bianca has really pale skin. :)
